Master Jianqiang, Executive Director
for Dharma Services
(法務監院 見鏘法師)master Jianqiang

Before she came to the Philippines, Master Jianqiang worked in Tian Xiang Chan Monastery, an affiliate of Chung Tai Chan Monastery, and was immersed in liturgical services and acolyte work. Before that, she worked as Executive Director for Dharma Services in many meditation centers around Taiwan since graduating from Chung Tai Buddhist Institute for Nuns. Her expertise in the two fields of Dharma Services and acolyte work bodes well for her present assignment in the Philippines.

Here in Ocean Sky Chan Monastery, Master Jianqiang does the planning, scheduling, and execution of Dharma ceremonies, meditation classes, and other activities in and out of the Monastery.

Shifu takes her turn in leading the chanting in liturgical ceremonies, and also knows every minute task of an acolyte, always keeping a sharp eye in the Chan Hall during Dharma ceremonies. Master Jianqiang currently teaches the weekly acolyte class and is in the process of training the motley group of Chan Hall volunteers to become true servers and attendants of Buddha. Shifu’s slender built, serene demeanor, and soft-spokenness belies a tough and firm commitment to her work.

Shifu quotes this verse from the Surangama Sutra, which is also her vow: “I vow to serve all beings in the world wholeheartedly; For this is the way to repay the Buddha’s kindness.” (將此深心奉塵剎,是則名為報佛恩。)

Despite her busy schedule, Jianqiang Shifu also handles the Bodhi Youth Class, a meditation class for youths aged 13-18. In her class, Shifu imparts the Buddha’s wisdom to these young people, and plants the Bodhi Seed in their mind. Ocean Sky Chan Monastery is indeed indebted to her commitment to excellence in everything that she does.
