Master Jianjun, Reception Director
(知客 見歸法師)

master jianjunLike all the Dharma Masters in Ocean Sky, Master Jianjun got her training from the Chung Tai Buddhist Institute for Nuns.

Since her assignment to the Philippines as Reception Director of Ocean Sky, all visitors to the Monastery have been welcomed by Jianjun Shifu’s smiling face and warm greetings. In addition to receptionist duties, Master Jianjun also manages the secretariat, keeping a diligent eye over various information in registration forms, especially the sensitive entries to be used in red (blessing) and yellow (memorial) tablets.

On top of that, Master Jianjun teaches the weekly Bodhi Star class for kids 6-12 years old. She patterns her lessons after the Four Tenets of Chung Tai: Respect, Compassion, Harmony, and Truthfulness, with Thankfulness added in. Jianjun Shifu connects well with the Filipino children, most of whom are brought up in Catholic families. The children especially enjoy listening to her Buddhist stories, and are thrilled to learn martial arts from her. The kids have noticeably become more well-mannered, greeting the Shifus and volunteers upon their arrival and before leaving the Monastery, with palms together and saying “A-mi-to-fo.” Surely, Master Jianjun’s hard work will bear fruit when these Bodhi Stars grow up, and apply the virtues which they have learned in Ocean Sky when they become active members of the Philippine society.

Jianjun Shifu shares: “I vow to be able to guide all sentient beings to study Buddhism and to learn from the compassion and wisdom of Grand Master Wei Chueh. The students in Ocean Sky are certainly on the right track with their diligence in seeking the Truth by coming to class several days a week. In the end, it is the hope of the resident Shifus that we can help more people in the Philippines apply Buddha’s teachings in their lives, in order to free themselves of attachments and suffering, and attain true happiness.”
