Lynette Lim (傳琉), Vice President
Lynette Lim is a successful businesswoman and vice president of a computer company she co-owns with her husband, Roger. Despite her busy schedule, Lynette still finds time to practice her faith as a Buddhist. Part of her cultivation for the past 15 years is setting aside an hour and a half each day to recite part of the Earth Treasure Sutra. Even the constant demands of travels abroad do not stop her from reciting the sutra during plane rides.
Introduced by her aunt, Grace So, Lynette has been very diligent in attending classes in Ocean Sky, and joining
its Saturday repentance practice. Lynette said: “I know that only people with merits get the chance to study Buddhism; so I have to treasure my blessings. Coming to Ocean Sky has benefited me and my family tremendously. The biggest change that I noticed is that I am not quick-tempered anymore, and am more tolerant. I am also learning how to let go of my attachments. After listening to the Dharma talks, I now understand why we have to study the Dharma and do prostrations to the Three Jewels, and why we have to chant the liturgies.”
In wanting to spread the Dharma, Lynette brings other people to Ocean Sky. Some members of her family are now active participants in the affairs of the monastery. She and her mom-in-law always strike an elegant pair in many activities in the monastery. In fact, their combined Dharma names is 琉璃 (liu li), meaning lapis lazuli, which signifies crystal, representing purity and preciousness. Her husband Roger is also Buddhist. One son of hers has volunteered in the summer camp, while another son and a cousin sometimes take pictures during ceremonies. Lynette clearly belongs to one happy Buddhist family.
As a consultant of the monastery, Lynette makes suggestions and generously provides for the computer necessities and other electronic devices and accessories of the monastery. When asked how she can improve on her practice, she replied: “I want to make the habit of practicing the Four Tenets of Chung Tai, so that I can be mindful of my actions, and become a better person.”
