Doctor Liu Guo is the designated doctor of Chinese traditional medicine at Beijing Tong Ren Tang (北京同仁堂), located across Ocean Sky. One time, his wife came to the Philippines to visit him, and was so happy to discover a Buddhist monastery right across their doorstep. Dr. Liu soon came over to attend meditation class, starting with the beginner’s course and after that, continued on to the intermediate level. This year 2012, he also came over to show support during the children’s summer camp.

As a compassionate medical practitioner, Dr. Liu is able to reflect from the point of view of the science of medicine to affirm Buddhist principles during discussions in class. Before he leaves Ocean Sky after class, the gentle doctor always tells the Abbess humbly that he has learned a lot about Buddha’s teaching. This term, he also joined in the chanting of Medicine Buddha Sutra and never missed a single class, even with his busy practice.

Dr. Liu said: “By chanting the Medicine Buddha Sutra, I know I have increased my merits. After studying Buddha’s teachings, I understand better how to treat my patients properly. I also know how to keep watch over my karma, by eating vegetarian, practicing meditation, and refraining from alcohol. All these good deeds can surely help me in my practice.”

Dr. Liu would introduce Ocean Sky to his patients and also bring the employees of Tong Ren Tang over for a guided tour. He continues: “I want to sincerely thank Ocean Sky for all the precious Dharma talks that I received. No matter when and where, I will always be grateful to all the Masters for their efforts in teaching us the Buddha Dharma.”
