Members , Dignitary Reception Section

The Dignitary Reception is a group of four devout and diligent bodhisattvas. They all like to come to Ocean Sky to chant sutras and would always join in the Dharma ceremonies and other activities.

lim banleyThe oldest is Lim Tan Ban Ley (林蘇曼麗,傳璃), who is more than 80 years old, but looks 10 years younger. She said: “I like listening to the prayers and beautiful chanting of the Dharma Masters in Ocean Sky.” Ban Ley has been offering beautiful flower arrangements to the Buddha as part of the Ten Offerings for the three-month Medicine Buddha Gratitude Ceremony. She is also the eldest sister of executive secretary Grace So, the elegant mother-in-law of advisor
Lynette Lim, and the mother of Lillian Syliongka. Ban Ley and Lillian join the Tour of the Bodhi Mind to Chung Tai every year.

amahNext is Antonita Suangco (甄彩琴,傳音), fondly called “Amah” (阿嬤) by all Ocean Sky people. She is the mother of the late Mario, the previous well-liked executive officer who passed away three years ago. Even without her son around, Amah still actively joins and volunteers in all events of the monastery. She, together with her four grandchildren, helped in the 2012 Bodhi Star summer camp without incurring any absences. Amah also consistently comes to chant the Medicine Buddha Sutra every evening for the three month duration. Amah says: “when I’m in Ocean Sky, I feel more at peace and do not worry much. I feel more relaxed and calm.”

bella limBella Lim (李瑞香,傳香) is a familiar sight in the monastery. She comes almost everyday and sits in the Chan hall to do her daily routine of reciting several sutras in one sitting. Afterwards, she would clean the small
meeting room as part of her volunteer chores. Bella is also generous in donating T-shirts for the lay people’s use. She has never missed the Tour of the Bodhi Mind in the last few years.

lilian syliongkaThe youngest of the group is the cheerful Lillian Jean Syliongka (林淑真,傳隱). Lillian is the daughter of Ban Ley and accompanies her mom whenever she comes to Ocean Sky. Her daughter Richelle would
sometimes volunteer as photographer during cere- monies. Lillian says: “I like going to Ocean Sky to pray. The chanting makes me feel peaceful and helps me forget my worries even for a short while.”
